Indian Crepes (Vella Dosai) for Breakfast!

Ingredients

For Your Indian Crepes

  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup jaggery
  • 2 ½ cups Water
  • 1 tsp Cardamom powder
  • Clarified butter (cooking & serving)
  • 10 almonds toasted in clarified butter and sliced

Method

Take out your deepest pan. Melt your jaggery in 1½ cups of water over medium heat. Drain.

In a large mixing bowl, pour in your whole wheat flour.

Add in your melted jaggery to the leftover water.

Use a whisk to mix the ingredients thoroughly. You want to form a batter without any lumps or air bubbles.

You can add more water if needed to get the consistency that you want.

Preheat a non-stick tawa on medium heat. Brush it with a little cooking oil.

Pour about 1/8 of a cup of your premixed batter onto the tawa. Ensure that your heat stays on medium while cooking your crepes or they will not cook right.

Drizzle your clarified butter onto your crepes, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on medium heat or until the bottom side turns golden brown.

Flip your crepe and lower the heat. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes more.

Serve hot with your toasted almonds, fruit of choice, or other kinds of butter for an easy family breakfast!
